Top 5 Best Sledding Hills, Madison Wi

The top 5 best sledding hills in Madison from the largest hills to the most kid-friendly. With Madison Park's combined size of over 6,000 acres, it's no wonder the city has some great hills for sledding.

1. Elver Park, West Side

The largest hill with cross country skiing, Ice-skating & shelter.

Elver park is the tallest sledding hill in Madison Wi with a kid-friendly sledding zone for a safer environment. It is the only sledding hill in Dane county that is maintained with snow groomers and snow machines. The hill is lighted at night during opening hours closing at 10 pm. The park has cross country skiing with groomed trails and a ice skating rink with a hockey rink. There are two shelters with heat, restrooms and ice skate rentals during certain hours.

2. Sanatorium Hill, North Side

The longest sledding hill & 2nd largest. 

Sanatorium hill is a very long sledding hill that is not too steep. It is by far the best on the North and East side of Madison. On the very top you will find the best long distances view of the capital. The top is lighted up at night. Although this is not in a Madison park it is on public property open to the public as a county park. In the back there is a forest with trails careful though, there is a north side legend that the forest is hunted. 

3. Olbrich Park, Central East

Kid-friendly with ice-skating & a great view. 

Olbrich Park has a great neighborhood vibe with a kid friendly sledding environment. It's not too large or steep for sledding. The park also has ice-skating with hockey rinks and a great view of the city of Madison. The area is lighted at night by the street lights for sledding. 

4. Warner Park, North Side

A steep hill with an Ice-rink & shelter.

Warner Park is not too large but is steep and fun to go down. The park also has a heated shelter with restrooms near the ice skating rink that also has a hockey rink as well. There are skate rentals at the sheller during certain hours.

5. Hiestand Park, East Side

3rd Largest

Hiestand Park is not too big or too small located on the east side of Madison.  There are no ice rinks or shelters at this park.
